You’re more likely to act yourself into feeling than feel yourself into action.
– Dr. Jerome Bruner, Harvard Psychologist
Well it’s the beginning of a new year and so as always people have been talking about New Year’s resolutions. The discussion began even before we crossed over into 2018 and has persisted throughout the month. Someone said to me recently, with conviction, “I am not doing the whole resolution thing … it doesn’t work anyway.” Have you ever found yourself saying such things? Do you relate to this? I know it sure rings true in my ears.
It’s for this reason I’ve been thinking about putting a little “spin” on things. I am setting time aside this month to slow down so I can listen and reflect on how I can bring particular intention to a few key areas of my life (e.g. eating, relationships, work, etc.) Then from here, I am going to face my fears, my perfectionist tendencies, and compulsive overthinking, etc. … I am going to make 2018 a year of ACTION. I want to meet my intentions with action, trusting that the best is yet to come!
This is what I want for myself, for those close to me, and this is what I want for YOU. How about taking care of yourself by setting a few intentions and making the decision to act on them? Don’t delay. Acting on this invitation is the first step. – Scott
